I just wanted to say thanks for all your support, as many of you know on the weekend I had my first Ironwoman series event win.
I’m very excited to get away to such a good start to the Series as the points scoring this year will really reward the athletes finishing in the top three and punish anyone who has a bad race.
The race was really tough, the course was windy and tricky and the sand in those run legs was as soft and hot as it looked on TV. But it was great to be racing after a long winter of training. I didn’t have the board leg I was hoping for and had a lot of work to do in the swim. There were a lot of great competitors in front of me and I had to really dig deep and rely on the kilometres Dennis Cotterill has put me through to swim back into contention. Liz pushed me all the way, and whilst I snuck away in the second half of the ski, I really had to work hard all the way to the finish.
Crossing the tape in front was a great feeling and I hope it sent a message to any doubters that I am going to be going my hardest this Series to defend my title.
Last year consistency was a real feature of my racing and I will be doing my very best to do the same again as it will be the athlete who can produce a consistent result across all six races that will be most deserving of the Karla Gilbert medal.
Thanks to everyone who made it to Surfers Paradise and cheered me home on the weekend. Also thankyou to all the others who have sent me emails or contacted me through facebook with messages of support.
Have a great Christmas and all the very best for a wonderful New Year.
Hope to see you at Portsea on Jan 8th.
