Courtney Hancock has set up a blockbuster final round of the Telstra Ironwoman Series after winning the fifth round at Coolum.
The 2010-11 series champion took out both races to ensure victory and narrow the gap on series leader Naomi Flood.
Going into next Sunday’s final round at Noosa, Olympic kayaker Flood holds an eight-point lead over Gold Coast-based Hancock.
Hancock endured a horror performance in round four on the Gold Coast eight days ago.
She suffered concussion after hitting her head on her board and finished 11th.
However she said she now gave herself a chance of victory and would head into the series decider with renewed confidence.
“It’s definitely a different day from last week,” she said.
“I’ve had concussion. I had headaches until Thursday after hitting my head on the board and sand last week.
“All week I just focused on recovery and making sure I was right for this weekend.
“Today I wanted it so badly, so I wasn’t going to let anyone get in my way today.”
Gold Coast veteran Hayley Bateup finished second yesterday while Sunshine Coast 17-year-old Alyssa Bull finished third.
