Courtney Hancock has wrapped up her maiden national Ironwoman Series title after finishing fifth in the final round at Noosa.
The Gold Coast 22-year-old did not manage a round win during the 2010-11 season, but took the overall points victory after putting in a consistent performance over all five races.
Her Northcliffe teammate Elizabeth Pluimers finished the series in second place despite winning four of the five rounds, including Sunday’s race in small two-foot waves and pounding rain.
Hancock said the fact that she hadn’t managed a race win failed to take the shine off her title victory, calling it a childhood dream come true.
“This series is what people want to win,” she said.
“Just because I didn’t get a win, people have done it before without getting a win.
“But this is what I came to do, I’m just so happy.”
